You can copy SNMP trap definitions from a higher scope (for example, Global) to your current scope. This allows you to customize trap behavior without modifying the original definition. Copying a trap is typically required before customizing traps inherited from higher scopes. Traps inherited from higher scopes are read-only and must be copied before they can be modified.

Copying a trap creates a new definition in your scope that can be edited independently. You may need to copy a trap when you want to:

  • Modify severity or alert behavior for a specific environment
  • Apply different configurations for different clients or tenants
  • Customize alert content or conditions
  • Override default (Global) trap definitions

Copy a trap definition

  1. Go to Setup → Account → Monitoring → Metrics & Events → SNMP Traps.
  2. Locate the trap defined in a higher scope. For example, Global.
  3. Click the More actions (⋯) menu for the trap.
  4. Click Copy.
  5. Select the target scope.
  6. Save the copied trap definition.

The copied trap retains the same OID as the original definition.

Customize copied trap definitions

After copying a trap to your scope, you can modify its behavior to meet your requirements.

You can update:

Severity and severity type Conditions based on trap data Alert subject and description Alert generation behavior

Copied trap definitions override the corresponding definitions from higher scopes. Changes made to the copied trap apply only to your scope and do not affect the original definition.
